Philippine hospitals bombarded by angry folks

This morning I heard one of our colleague is telling another colleague about someone who mentions the hospitals name in a social media. She told us that another patients folks posted a complaint about the hospitals doctors and nurses on Facebook. My colleague told us that this person who posted on Facebook actually isn’t in the vicinity the time his patient is in the facility. The said man posted on Facebook that ” if there are other hospitals other than the name of the said hospital, you go there not here”. I am hiding the hospitals name for confidentiality and because of hospitals rules not to mention the name on social media. What he really complain about is his nephew who happen to have a toy guns bullet lodge in his ears, and the hospitals doctor on duty refuse to accept the patient. They misunderstood the doctors point. The hospital is only an infermary type of hospital and it cannot accept all patients with fatal conditions. Infermary hospitals are for first aids and they need to transfer the patient to a tertiary hospital to aid it’s needs. That day the doctor on duty is not a surgeon to undergo a minor injury. The doctor is neither an ENT to consult his ears. Lapses on the complainants side is seen and because he didn’t think that they are blessed to have gotten the toy guns bullet in their nephews ears without the help of a nurse or doctor. He said that the nurses and doctors to the hospital I work with are timid and when they go there, their patient will die. Maybe the man who complained is just mad because he can’t diagnose nor give prognosis to his patient. Maybe I’m a bit bias and I’m talking because I’m on the hospitals side.

I have experienced too many patients folks with different characteristics and I have develop my communication skills. Some are grouchy, irritated, and some are sweet talking and friendly. Sometimes when the person we’re talking to are mad, we accumulate its negative energies and we get mad too. If only people understands what the other side are feeling when they post unsolicited words or bad mouths the hospitals personnel’s.

Most hospitals are slammed by angry folks. People are always in a hurry and condemn those who work in the hospital. Here in the Philippines, almost all public hospitals have it’s bad reputation from their patients. Some radio stations posted people’s complaints from another angry folks to doctors and personnels of another provincial hospital. They always complain that their patient died because the attending physician didn’t do it’s job to revive their relatives. I say we cannot do anything possible if the person brought to the ER is already dead. People are mad after the death of their love one’s and it’s acceptable to hear their shouts, cries and agony’s. One complaint of the citizens of the Philippines are the nurses being so intimidating and irritable. People call some health personnel as nurses even if their not. People think that everyone who work in the hospital who wears scrubs are nurses and almost all complaints go to the nurses.

Patients folks are sometimes irritating and complains everytime they see something off because they are thinking of the payments and medicines to buy to alleviate their patients pains. Some becomes toxic to talk to because they do not know what to do to their relatives agony’s. I’m so sorry for some patient with whom some hospitals personnel shouts at them. We can’t sometimes calm down the person’s moods if it’s high up the moment you meet them. Let me tell you a story about a woman who posted something on Facebook and about to be sued the moment the hospital knew about it. One day a woman came to the hospital with her child having diarrhea. Her child defecated in the seat and she called the nurse to get the poop out the wooden seat. The nurse hesitated to clean the poop because she felt nauseated and she thinks the right person to clean it, is the utility personnel. That day the woman with her child does not show any annoyance or anger but the night that day she posted something on Facebook. She bad mouths the nurses she didn’t personally know who hesitated to clean her child’s poop on social media. Many people commented on it and almost all commenters agreed to the woman. The day came when one of hospitals personel saw her post on Facebook and showed it to the hospitals administrator. At first the woman is very aggresive and confident that she’s always in the right. Then the hospital take action, they file a complaint in the barangay center and summons her. They talk to her and the woman cried asking that they accept her apologies and they agreed she wouldn’t do such thing again. They agreed that if ever she has complaints about the hospitals personnel, she would go to the hospitals administrator and tell her suggestions or opinions to better the hospitals service. I work in a health care facility and practiced my profession for over 7 years now and if ever I’ll be given a chance to choose a work or change career, I would rather work in others job than work in a toxic facility. All jobs are hard just like what you do in your workplace. I want to tell you about what people don’t know in a hospital setting. You just don’t know the difficulty of talking sweet early in the morning while your not in the mood yet. It feels like acting to be so sweet and kind while you’re so sleepy waking early in the morning to go to your 6AM shift. You just don’t know how if feels to finish your job earlier while some walk in patients are calling you to hurry and hand them their results. You just don’t know how it feels like to do your task in a quiet corner and someone comes in and distracts you on what you’re doing. Most ER Nurses don’t eat at 12:00noon, they sometimes ate after lunch to accommodate patients and to finish writing their patients chart. Medical Technologist don’t have a lunch break and when you came while they’re eating in the pantry, they still accommodate you even when their hand have already touch the fried fish in their lunchbox. Some doctors are also sick but chose to see you than to rest in his bed. You might say that it’s their fault if they haven’t eaten before lunch but try to walk in their shoes if you manage to work with all the toxic people like yourself. The hospitals have its rules and policies to care for patients before themselves. In private hospitals health personel can be terminated from their jobs only because they did not follow rules. Rules are rules. And when the pharmacist is only until 5, that means you cannot buy any medicine after 5PM. Nurses and doctors have different jobs and you just can’t judge them for what they’re doing. Maybe you finish your 4 year degree in college harder than some of us. Maybe you were saying all courses are hard and no course in college is easy. You cannot judge a Medical Technologist if they say that they have the hardest degree in their time. If someone says it’s hard, just believe in it because no person will say it’s heaven going to school. People who make a health personnel cry do not know the hardship from school of finishing her degree and training herself to be better or competitive health personnel.

The world lack thankfulness and self control. People should think before they do what they feel the moment they are triggered. People must think that a miracle happened when their relatives live without the help of nurses or doctors, not to condemn others for their wrongs.
